Donations & Sponsorships

At Sitka Food Co-op, our commitment to our community goes beyond providing wholesome natural and organic food and products at the best possible prices. Supporting the local community through charitable giving is also very important to us.

We give priority to local charitable organizations whose work aligns with ours – such as providing access to wholesome, healthy food; supporting local agriculture; and creating a knowledgeable community informed about choices that impact personal wellness and the environment.

Our donations program includes three components:

  • General Donations – Small, event-specific donations are provided in the form of Co-op gift certificates or gift bags, generally not to exceed $50 in value.
  • The “Co-op Cares” Donation Program – Those who shop the Co-op have the opportunity to “round up” their shopping bill to the nearest dollar and have that difference donated to a local charitable organization. Every six months 100% of these donations will go to one of two recipient organizations chosen by the Co-op’s membership at their annual meeting.
  • Sponsorships – When funds are available, we will consider larger donations to sponsor community health and food-related events.

Please remember that we often receive a number of donation requests. Unfortunately, it may not be possible for us to fill every one. Our decisions are based on the recipient group’s alignment with the Sitka Food Co-op’s goals, the number of people who will benefit, and the funds available in our donations budget when a request is received.

We believe our donations will have the greatest impact when we support local nonprofit organizations working in our community.

We do not donate to individuals, national charities, political candidates or organizations, organizations that advance a particular religious belief, or organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, national origin, religion, age, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, disability or status in any other protected group.

How to request a donation:

All requests should be made at least one month in advance of the planned event. Requests must be received formally in writing (letter or email) and attached to our Donation Request Form.  Incomplete forms will not be considered. Recipients may receive a maximum of one donation per year.

Please submit your request by mail or email to:
